子曰:‘‘吾十有五而志于学,三十而立,四十而不惑,五十而知天命,六十而耳顺,七十而从心所欲,不逾矩。’’
The Master said,"At fifteen I set my heart upon learning.At thirty,Iplanted my feet upon the ground.At forty,I no longer suffered from perplexities.At fifty,I knew what were the biddings of heaven.At sixty,I heard them with docile ear.At seventy,I could follow the dictates of my own heart;for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right."
子zǐ:the master,here refers to confucius
吾wú:我,I,me
十shí:ten
有yǒu:has,have,there be,here it means ‘and’
志zhì:v.set one's heart upon;n.will
三sān:three
立lì:stand up,build up,here means becoming independent
四sì:four
而ér:still
五wǔ:five
知zhī:知道know
天命tiān mìng:god‘s will,destiny
六liù:six
耳ěr:ear
顺shùn:obey,here means whatever someone else said,I keep listening to ,without any interference
七qī:seven
从心所欲cóng xīn suǒ yù:do whatever you like.
不逾矩bú yù jù:not overstep the boundaries.
