My name is Karolina and I have been teaching English to both children and adults for over 23 years in various countries and organizations. With a great deal of blood, sweat and tears and of course, love, I also built my own online English language training company which had always been a dream and goal of mine. Parallel to that, I joined Verbling 5 years ago and continue to love working here! My love and passion for the English language has been a constant in my life and has over the years developed into a deep interest to help as many language learners reach their learning goals as possible. As an ambassador’s child, I had the privilege and joy of visiting and living in a number of incredible countries and living the life of a nomad! Being born in Switzerland and moving to Canada at the age of 3, English quickly became my native language. My parents, realizing that English would not only be an asset but a necessity growing up in various countries, chose to enroll me in American International schools throughout my school education. I have rich and beautiful memories of growing up in South Africa, Greece and as a young adult moving to Germany and then later The Netherlands. Over the course of these years, my love of the English language only grew and deepened, and at a very young age I embarked on the path that would eventually lead me to where I am today: a teacher who truly loves what she does! As a teenager, I first fell in love with the language through poetry and literature, immersing myself in the beauty of words that I felt could almost magically create new worlds and capture feelings. This led me to my own experimentations with poetry and writing which to this very day are things I enjoy dearly and are very important to me. I was fascinated at how language allowed people to communicate with one another, brought people closer together and managed to bridge incredible gaps. As time went by and I began moving from country to country I also very quickly understood how valuable English was as a language and as a tool. Being the only common language everyone spoke in many of the countries I visited, I realized just how incredibly important it was to have a grasp on the language if I wanted to truly communicate with and understand others. Fast forward twenty years and this is more vital than ever before. In a world led by globalization and one where the international language of commerce is English, having the ability to speak English is truly no longer an asset but rather a necessity. As a young adult in Germany, I came to the realization that I wanted to turn my passion for the English language into a career. From that moment on, I invested my time and energy into attaining my goal of becoming an English teacher. I took my first step by gaining my CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) which then led me to my first teaching positions at language schools in Berlin. Over the years I taught both General and Business English in various companies including Wall Street School of English, Ebay Germany, Jaguar and Thyssenkrupp among others. I soon followed my certificate with an Advanced Diploma in Applied Linguistics and eventually a Masters in Education (Applied Linguistics), solidifying and expanding my knowledge on the foundations of the English language, how it developed over the years and how we can as teachers successfully help others learn the language. I continue to further educate myself at every opportunity, most recently completing the “Foundations of Virtual Instruction” course through the University of California. I realize that the face of education is rapidly changing and moving ever more towards online learning; more accessible and flexible learning. It is a trend that I believe will continue to develop over time, which is why I chose to focus on expanding my online teaching career. The other equally important reason for moving into online teaching was my interest in and desire to work with people from around the globe- what an incredible opportunity! Finally, I find myself after many years back in Greece realizing my long-term dream of starting my own business where I can share with others my knowledge of and passion for the English language. Nothing brings me more joy and fulfilment than helping others attain their language learning goals and supporting them through the often challenging but always exciting path of learning a new language. I always strive to make each students’ learning experience a unique one; one filled with support, patience and encouragement. I have had the fortune of working with truly wonderful individuals who have inspired me and continue to inspire me, and who remind me- though I never need reminding!-just why I became an English teacher. I hope that we will have the opportunity to meet and work together very soon. Sincerely, Karolina Thomoglou PLEASE NOTE: Last minute and same day cancellations will NOT be refunded unless there is an emergency situation. Hello, I am Alison Moore and I am a fully qualified teacher of English as a Foreign/Second Language. Do you want to pass an exam, the Life in the UK Test, improve your English for your job or apply for a new job, or just learn to speak better? With over twenty years teaching experience at every level (beginners to advanced) and every age group, I know how to help you. I have a postgraduate Royal Society of Arts Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (equivalent to the DELTA) and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from Greenwich University. You will enjoy learning English with me - the first thing we will do is discuss why you want to learn, how you like to learn and what your interests are. We will then plan a programme together starting with what you already know and building on that basis. I can help you whether you want help with conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing or Citizenship. I have taught students from all over the world and at every level including those who speak no English and don't read and write any language (including their own) to those who need English because they are studying at university in the UK, or need help with job applications, or to write reports at work. I have helped many students pass exams such as Cambridge First Certificate, City and Guilds, B1, the Life in the UK test, and to improve their IELTS banding. My teaching experience began at the British Council in Hong Kong where I worked for two years. I then worked with Vietnamese refugees who had just arrived in the UK, and since then I have worked in private language schools such as St Giles in London and in the Adult and Community Learning sector in London and currently in West Sussex. I help deliver and mark City and Guilds ESOL exams in my current position. I love teaching and helping people to meet their goals. Please get in touch and we will go from there.
Hello everyone :) If you want to improve your speaking above all and become confident in your communication, I can help you with it. Or you want specific Business language practice, exam preparation or perhaps gain knowledge in language use in the medical sector, then you are looking at the right person! :D Of course we can chat about cooking, travelling and parallel universes, I can talk about pretty much anything! Apart from the communicative element I would like to focus on correcting mistakes, using the right grammar and collocations in everyday life. I want my students to lose that fear of not wanting to talk, even from the very beginner's level. I know what it is like to learn a language, I have been through this almost 4 times in my life and to be honest it gets easier every time. English now is a global language whether we like it or not, but all other languages are equally if not more interesting and worth learning - I can help with English and Hungarian, perhaps a bit with Spanish but my main focus is English. As for me as a person - I really enjoy networking and being with people - this is why I enjoy teaching so much. Apart from being a passionate language teacher/learner I also practice natural medicine. I care about the environment and the maintenance of our well-being. I grew up in Australia and lived most of my life in the UK and Spain. I speak Spanish and Hungarian. I have been teaching EFL for the past 15 years in Australia, UK, Spain and Hungary. My accent is more British than anything else. I do coaching; translation and proofreading for websites, science journals, uni students and for publishers and I have been preparing European professionals for interviews and work abroad with great success! The two other major interests in my life are health and music, I practice Ayurvedic therapy and make music; I usually create interesting class materials where I can integrate other useful information that interest me. I have organised language events in Spain and short trips to the UK as an add-on for my students and people who want to practice their language skills. My lessons are very communicative, with a range of materials that I send to my students and after the class students receive a pdf document of the vocabulary and errors that came up during the class.
I have more than 25 years of experience teaching English as foreign language and I hold a masters degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I can teach any kind of English course, whether it is for international exams such as the IELTS, English for Specific Purposes, for instance a Tourism course, preparation for a job interview or just a general English language course. Learning English with me will not only boost your confidence and motivation of using the language, but I will also help you reach your target. Book a lesson and we can arrange the perfect plan for you and any package deals. My classes are dynamic and are taught with absolute confidence and professionalism. I constantly strive to find innovative and effectual ways of developing my teaching skills in order to give the best English Language Education to you. I am a trustworthy, well presented and an approachable individual with first class communication skills. I am here to help you achieve your goals and objectives.
My name is Nico and I'm American. Please see my resume for the specific details of my qualifications and experience as a TEFL teacher. I have a lot of experience teaching children, teenagers, and adults, most of whom went on to take CEFR exams (whether British Institutes, IELTS, or Cambridge). Because of this experience, and also the experience of running my own school, I have a good sense of how fast students can develop their language skills and how to keep moving forward in the process of language learning. For me, it is essential that students are well-rounded, which means they need to work on the various parts of a language – reading, listening, speaking, pronunciation, writing, and grammar. Unfortunately, a lot of students focus on one or two of these areas at school, leaving gaps in their education. It’s important to have lessons completely in English, but it does help reduce a student’s stress level at times if they are completely stuck and can revert back to their original language. In these cases, I speak Italian, if it’s of any additional help. Furthermore, knowing the common Italian mistakes often helps with Spanish and French students because at times the vocabulary and grammatical structures are similar. *Please note that I do not do two-hour lessons.
