I am Alice Ayel, I am originally from Paris and I have been a teacher of modern languages (French, Spanish and English) for more than 15 years now. I have strong GCSE, IB and IGCSE experience and my students achieve excellent results and enjoy learning another language. I strongly believe anyone can speak multiple languages because our human brain is hard- wired to do so. Learning another language opens up new opportunities and gives perspectives that you might never have encountered otherwise. The natural way to acquire another language is to first listen to the language. You already did it when you were a baby. Your parents and carers kept talking to you and telling you stories. The same happens here, you first listen to the language you want to learn and then speak it when you are ready! I teach fluency and proficiency through stories. Stories are intriguing, they capture your imagination and instead of focusing on learning a language, you are focusing on comprehending a story. The language itself is not your worry anymore, you are interested in the content, in knowing what is going to happen next in the story and therefore you are acquiring the language without noticing it. When you have a French session with me, you create and tell your own stories, you listen to stories, you read stories. Your brain stores the new words effortlessly and permanently because it generates multiple connections and therefore you become fluent in French fast! When you understand and have fun listening to stories and creating your own stories in French, you get better in French. The goal is to help students to improve his or her French reading and listening. These are good for all levels from beginner to advanced. Beginner level - We will work to make sure you are able to speak and interact with local people when traveling abroad. You will learn how to introduce yourself and start a conversation using basic words and sentences. We focus on the core knowledge which is necessary to survive in any situations especially those related to travel. Intermediate and advanced levels - We will focus on improving the knowledge of the language by having an open discussions on topics you have chosen, I will correct you mistakes and I will take notes about them. We will talk about the text/audio/video together (summary + expression of your point of view). If the time permits it, I will introduce more information about this subject, so that you have more insight about the country as well. You will learn useful idioms and phrases that you will need to feel comfortable with speaking and reading in real life situations. - After the lesson: I will write a document reviewing your mistakes (Vocabulary/Grammar/Pronounciation) and send it to you.

So here are several things we can do : - Speak about your day, a movie or a subjects that interests you - Read an article of your choice or mine to practice your pronunciation and learn new vocabulary and grammar - Review a grammar rule that is difficult to you : I explain first and then we practice with exercices I make - Correcting together a text you wrote - Doing role playing like how to order in a restaurant, renting a house... ****Comment je travaille ? HOW I WORK ?**** Ma méthode d’apprentissage se base sur : 1. la DIVERSITE des supports (matériels) et des activités pour rendre les cours distrayants ; 2. la mise en PRATIQUE de la communication ORALE pendant nos cours : je suis très PATIENTE afin que vous vous exprimiez un maximum pendant nos sessions. L’objectif est que vous obteniez un FEEDBACK d’une personne NATIVE sur votre prononciation, votre accent et les expressions réellement utilisées par les français. Bio: Caroline Mosser is an educator, translator, writer and independent scholar. She has lived and worked in both France and the United States, and is looking forward to more adventures. After earning her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of South Carolina, she has taught French as a postdoctoral fellow at Utah State University. As a graduate student, she participated in and taught for the competitive Social Advocacy and Ethical Life scholarship program at USC. Having always been fascinated by both the sciences and the humanities, she has focused her work on their connection through the study of the representations of science and technology in popular culture. A life-long learner, she enjoys sharing her knowledge through teaching and participating in various academic and cultural projects (such as translating, interpreting, and editing). In her free time, she enjoys watching science fiction movies and TV shows as well as skating and hiking to make up for her cooking Teaching philosophy: Throughout my academic career, I have been teaching courses in French and English and am comfortable with both languages. I present myself as a mentor to students. Because I believe that teaching is a collaboration between instructor and students, I include open-ended assignment in which they explore their own interest and how it relates to our class. In a basic French-language course, I focus on creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable to participate. Being a native speaker of French, I use my experience of learning English to relate to my students and build a two-way conversation. I tell them on the first day of class that they can correct my English. Students have reacted positively and tend to feel more comfortable expressing their difficulties. I also privilege positive feedback, using an informative rather than corrective feedback policy, and metalinguistic feedback allowing students to figure out their mistake. As a facilitator, I use mostly French in order to build students’ ability to understand the language through contextual clues. I use cultural or personal artifacts to provide visual clues and authentic examples. For instance, when teaching about food, I use menus from French restaurants, asking what they would like to order, which ingredients they expect to find, leading to a discussion comparing what is offered in their favorite restaurants and what they would recommend. In the case of a higher level French-language class, I privilege contemporary material because it is more relevant to students as they include structures and vocabulary likely to be encountered outside of the classroom. Students reflect on language as form and meaning in context and finally, produce their own texts. Doing so allows me to start a discussion on how ideas can be represented differently. It allows us to discuss how meaning can take many forms. Language and literature courses are often criticized for not being practical or for being too focused on textbooks. I disagree. These courses are windows to a world of possibilities and it is my responsibility to make sure that students are able and willing to open them.
