I'm Tania Rodriguez-Kaarto. I was born in Mexico City and now live in Helsinki Finland. I'm originally a graphic designer and dedicated myself to book design for many years and also worked for the school of Architecture at one of the biggest universities in Mexico City. I then jumped an ocean and landed in Helsinki for the first time to study a Master degree in Design and Art, which I finished quite fast and then went back home. However, I did leave my heart here (boyfriend) but didn't manage to come back until 2007 when I got married. Later on, I diverged a bit from my original professional interests and went into cooking, from which I also earned a degree. However, not happy with that I found myself struggling to learn the local language, Finnish.
I was quite disappointed and frustrated with the courses and how slow everything happened with my learning, I also noticed many foreigners having the same problems and getting depressed by this. So, I decided that there should be another way to learn. I then applied to the Doctoral program in one of the biggest Universities here in Helsinki and got accepted into the Visual Communication Design program where I've been experimenting with design thinking and visual methods for second language learning. I'm in the last year of my studies and hopefully will finish my dissertation by March 2019.
