Hi, my name is Beth Anne Firnges. I have a Master’s degree, a Graduate Teaching Certificate in TESOL and a BA in Linguistics all from Brigham Young University (BYU). I have over 10 years of teaching/tutoring experience. I specialize in teaching American English pronunciation and grammar but have taught all skill areas including reading, listening/speaking, and writing.
I have taught English as a second or foreign language in person as a professor at Utah Valley University (UVU) and at BYU. I have taught abroad in person in Japan and online to Korea and Hong Kong. I have tutored individual international students of all ages from professional business men and women to very young children.
I have been married for almost seven years and have continued teaching all the while. Our household consists of my amazing husband, three wonderful children, a teenage niece who lives with us, and me. We enjoy going on family outings, watching movies, reading fun books, playing games, and learning languages.
Whether tutoring individuals or teaching a class full of students it is very important to record an initial diagnostic assessment to see how much students know and what they need or want to learn and practice. For pronunciation, this is especially important in the form of voice or video recordings of the students before and after a series of lessons in order to record the students’ improvement. Student learning depends mainly on the dedication of the students and the time they put into practicing what they are learning. I base my lessons on what students want to learn so that they will enjoy learning with me. I am so excited to tutor you!
