Hi. I'm Nick. I'm a certified English teacher who has been teaching online for over 4 years.
In my lessons, my main role is being a patient, understanding listener. I create an environment where you feel comfortable speaking English and trying new things. That could include using a new vocabulary word you just learned, or translating a complicated sentence from your native language that includes conditionals. Or maybe even telling a joke in English! Because in my lessons, there is definitely laughter. I usually have a smile on my face, and hope you are having fun too.
While listening, I am also taking notes on phrases you used correctly, as well as things you could improve. At the end of the lesson, I give you direct feedback about how you can improve. This usually involves me repeating the incorrect or unnatural sounding sentence you said, giving you the chance to correct it yourself, and then guiding you to the correct, natural way to say it. If you don't understand why that's correct, I can give you a short grammar explanation.
And a bit more about me:
I'm from the U.S., born and raised in the state of Kentucky. After high school, I went to university in North Carolina, where I studied mathematics. Since then, I've lived in a number of cities, but now live in Berlin, Germany. And yes, I do speak German, so I know what it's like to learn a language as an adult. I've been in your shoes before. In fact, I'm still learning German, so I'm in your shoes right now!
I've been teaching English online for over 4 years now, and love it. I started by just helping my friends with their English, and then realized that this is something I could do full time. So I got a TEFL certification and have been improving my teaching skills on my own ever since.
